SE.S.TA invites applications for its Artist in Residency Program 2020, offering a space for both individual and group projects in the site-specific surrounds of the baroque Castle in Žďár nad Sázavou, which is equipped with quality facilities to support re-search, the creation and the rehearsal of performance work.

This Artist in residency program opens the premises of the Žďár nad Sázavou castle complex to artists. The one-of-kind complex of the former cloister, castle and surrounding grounds combines landscape and built environment in a unique Baroque whole. 2020 RESIDENCY DATES

/ August: 18.–27. 2020
/ October–November: 26. 10–6. 11. 2020

During each residency block, up to three artistic groups will work in parallel in the complex, forming a cluster. This offers participants the opportunity to network internationally, encountering new opinions, making new contacts and opening the possibility for new collaborations.

CRITERIA FOR USING THE SE.S.TA RESIDENCE PROGRAM

1. The artist applies to the Residency Programme concrete artistic project, vision or theme that they wish to develop further.

2. The artist applies to specific time period.

3. Resident artists are asked to share their process and/or work from the residency with the local public. This sharing may take different forms, always dependent upon the specifics of the project and its current stage of development. Residency outputs are usually conceived as a sharing of work-in-progress in the form of a public rehearsal, workshop, or lecture, depending on what best suits the project.

Practical information:

In addition to on-site accommodation and rehearsal space within the residency you will get:

/ The possibility to connect with other artists or artistic groups.

/ Encounters with the local public, including a sharing of work from your residency.

/ The possibility to take part on the SE.S.TA Blog, which is a platform gathering artistic and choreographic research, in dialogue with contemporary artistic discourse.

/ Access to SE.S.TA's network of contacts, including the possibility of facilitated collabo-ration with professional artistic coaches.

Throughout its more than 800 years of existence, the life of the castle complex has always stood upon two pillars: the living environment and living culture. Thanks to its owners, these principles are maintained to this day and are reflected through the castle’s diverse activities, which both reference the cultural, social and economic history of the place and relate to its current and future development.

SE.S.TA is happy to facilitate meetings with the local community for visiting artists. A primary school, an active parish and Museum with a lively education department can be found on the premises, while the nearby town offers possible collaboration with an arts school for children, local cultural institutions and representatives of various industries, including fisheries and forestry.
