Jakub Choma

Jakub Choma (b. 1995, Košice) is a visual artist based in Prague. After secondary studies in applied art in his native Košice, he graduated from the Painting Studio of Jiří Černický and Michal Novotný at UMPRUM in Prague. He moved fairly quickly from painting to assemblages, which he uses as segments for building multimedia installations, although painting remains important in his work. He works with cork, plexiglass, metal sheets and other industrial materials, applying digital print to their surfaces and lasering in fragments of sentences that steer the narrative of the piece. Drawing on long experience of digital environments and the aesthetics of gaming worlds, he questions techno-optimism and considers the hyperproductivity and exhaustion of contemporary neoliberal society. He is the laureate of the Jindřich Chalupecký Award for 2020 and is represented in the Czech Republic by Polansky Gallery. Updated: 2026 | Source: Artlist.cz
