Martha Moore
Martha Moore is a choreographer, improviser and teacher who was a member of The Entourage Music and Theatre Ensemble before moving to France in 1982. Blending movement, text and humour, she has always left room in her work for a story or two. She founded her first company, Toss, in 1985, and the collective Les Pénélopes in 1994. At the same time, she began collaborating as a performer with several French companies, notably I.D.A. Her work has been shown in the US and across Europe at numerous festivals and theatres, including Dance Theatre Workshop, The 92nd Street Y, The Door, Connecticut College, The Construction Company, The Yard, The American Dance Guild Festival, The Dragon’s Egg, La Maison de la Danse (Lyon), Centre Pompidou, Le Regard du Cygne, Die Werkstatt (Düsseldorf), Antelope Festival (Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland), Festival KoresponDance (Prague), Schwelle 7 (Berlin), Festival Afterskite (Vincennes), as well as the National Gallery in Prague and various art galleries. The filmmaker Sylvia Calle at La Fémis created a film adaptation of her work Kill the Woman (Moore & Lopez), entitled Killing Was Easy, which was shown at the Festival of Assassins in Paris in 1994. She has been regularly invited to teach workshops at the Centre National de la Danse, La Ménagerie de Verre, the SE.S.TA Centre for Choreographic Development in Prague, and the European Center for Dance Development in Arnhem.
